10 ways to be healthy even if you don’t lose a pound

This morning while watching the news there was a report on which of the popular diets was the best. Apparently the Atkins diet won in terms of weight lose and over all health.

I have never been a fan of dieting. I think that if you live a healthy lifestyle and make a few adjustments to your eating that you can be healthy. Any weight loss will be a positive side effect of being healthy instead of the main focus. These are some of the principles that I have been living by for the last seven years and if I can do it then anyone can.

  1. By simply eating at the same time daily it will promote a routine in your body so that when its time to eat its time to eat. Also making the last full meal of the day no later than 6pm will assist in digestion and comfort when trying to go to sleep.
  2. We as Americans have an obsession with everything fried. By cutting out fried foods all together or limiting there intake it will help with cholesterol and blood pressure levels.
  3. Adding more fruits and vegetables to ones daily routine will help give the body the vitamins and nutrients needs to burn calories. Fruit also makes a great snack.
  4. Protein is the fuel of the body. Starvation diets or low protein diets promote fat retention so it is very important to keep good amounts of protein in your diet.
  5. Even the smallest amount of exercise will help your overall health. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Walking short distances instead of driving. Setting a goal to take at least 4-10000 steps per day can help your health and you don’t even have to go to the gym.
  6. Approximately 66% of the human body consists of water. It is very important to keep your water intake high. Some say 8-10 glasses per day I like to say drink more water than you drink other beverages and you will get all the fluid your body needs.
  7. With the fast paced busy lifestyles of most homes its hard to eat on time. Preparing your food ahead of time and freezing it so that it can be reheated later will not only save you time but money. Also there is no need to figure out what to cook daily.
  8. Canned foods are faster but fresh foods are better for your overall health. Fresh fruits and vegetables in most cases cost less and take the same amount of prep time as there canned counterparts.
  9. While your body is adjusting to eating more healthy cravings will happen. Its’ best to address that craving right then and be done with it. This will also decrease the likelihood of binging occuring . I personally designated one day a week to eat whatever I wanted without thinking about is it healthy or not. I had something to look forward to and gave me the chance to do a mental evaluation of my eating up to that point.
  10. When trying to eat healthy and live a healthy lifestyle there will be plenty of individuals that will try to plant the seeds of doubt. Don’t listen to them. If you have to stop socializing with them while on your journey, its the price to pay for living healthy.

As a plus size man or woman in America today we hear all the reports about obesity and weight loss and other things related to our size. It seems that living and eating healthy has taken a back seat to weight lost.

If you eat right and make a few mental adjustments you can be healthy. Even if you don’t lose a pound the most important thing is that your overall health is in good standing.
