17 Bras to Accomodate Any Breast
There is a small debate that was started in the comments of the post Full Figured Questions - Shelf bras as to what a shelf bra is and what type of bra I described in my post. I started doing some research on the different types of bras and came up with seventeen types that do everything from provide extra padding to properly supporting breast during nursing. Once again I learned something new which is the very reason that I am blogging.
- Training - Made for preteens that are beginning to develop breasts. Not much in the way of support. Just like its name it is “training” young ladies what to expect from wearing a bra.
- Fullcup - Provides full support for the breasts. Has an under wire and covers breasts fully. This type is recommended for women with larger breasts.
- Demi cup - Only covers a portion of the breasts coming just above the nipple. Provides support while maximizing the exposure of the breasts.
- Padded - Padding on the inside of the cup lining to make smaller breasts appear larger. Created for teens and ladies with smaller breasts from stuffing tissue into other types of bras.
- Under wire - Provides extra support while maintaining the over all shape of the bra. For some the under wire is uncomfortable or in some case painful.
- Strapless - No straps at all or available one are removable. Best for clothing that expose the shoulders.
- Convertible - Detachable straps that can be moved around according to what type of clothing is worn.
- T-shirt - The seam hides the fact that a bra is worn under more form fitting clothing.
- Minimizer - Used to reduce the appearance of size. Usually the reduction is only one or two sizes.
- Maximizer/Push up- Meant to lift and highlight the breasts. Cleavage enhancers such as silicone inserts are included to give a fuller more natural look.
- Sports - Holds the breasts in place during intense physical activity. Designed for comfort and to reduce the amount of soft tissue damage from to much movement.
- Built-in - An added dimension to some clothing negating the need for a separate bra. Typical in swimsuits and camisoles. This type can also be padded or have an under wire.
- Shelf - Covering only the lower part of the breast leaving the nipple exposed. Provides little support and is normally worn only in intimate situations.
- Peephole - Built with holes around the nipple area. Does not sufficiently cover the entire breast enough to provide proper support. Like the shelf bra is only worn in intimate settings.
- Maternity - Addresses sensitive and more heavy breasts during pregnancy. Adjustable to take into account the changes in breast size during pregnancy.
- Nursing - Worn to ensure ease during breastfeeding. Front flaps can be move out of the way for nursing while still supporting the breast.
- Mastectomy- Used by women who have had one or both breasts removed. Made to keep prosthetic breast in place to simulate the presence of a breast.
I found that there are actually more types than the seventeen listed. These are the ones that have made it to the mainstream consumer. With any bra make sure that you are wearing the proper size or you will not be able to reap the benefits of your purchase.
