Web Design Contest Vote

I started the year off making my predictions for what I thought the year would hold for plus size men and women. Some things came true others didn’t but overall there was fantastic growth throughout the entire industry.

I’m going to walk you through the highs and lows of each month to show you what we have to look forward to and somethings that need some improvement.

January

Victims of Hurricane Katrina where in need of clothing for the winter. plus size merchants like Lane Bryant stepped up and donated truck loads of clothing. The trend of not many options for jeans for plus sizes continued but got better as the year progressed.

February

The beginning of this month marked me moving Full Figure Plus from blogger to its on domain and the start of me using Wordpress as my blogging software. Best decision I ever made. This was also the first time that I read about being fat was considered a virus. Cafe Press added additional plus sizes to there site, Medicare added some regulation to Weight Loss Surgery, and Lane Bryant introduced bridal wear

March

Thousands of plus size women from around the country come out to audition for Mo’Nque’s F.A.T. Chance. Wal-Mart introduces an exclusive plus size clothing line called Metro 7. Just my Size introduces the first major company to have a blog Just my Style, after one month the blog is deleted the clothing line continues. Monif C. Plus sizes is one of the featured clothiers on BET’s Rip the Runway

April

Plus size diva Mandesa Hundley was kicked off American Idol amid controversy. Phat Girlz opens up in the theaters. When it comes to shoes wedge heels are in and they are being made more for wide widths. The FDA clears a CT scanner made for producing images of larger patients.

May

Monif C. Plus sizes holds a unique shopping event call Curvy Girls Night out, with huge success. Lane Bryant introduces mannequins in larger sizes. There are still problems when it comes to finding fashions for plus sizes but its getting better. Retailers are starting to look at plus size fashion more seriously.

June

Plus size modeling is gaining more momentum and its being fueled by smaller houses like Devoe Signature Events. Saving your pants and your foot from injury got a boost with the muletto. Fat bashing continued but some good came out of it I was introduced to the FATASS cheerleaders from Germany. In addition Macy’s decreased the size of there petite section and increased and moved there plus size section to a more visible part of the store.

As you can see there was quite a bit of action going on and we are only up to June.  In the second half of the year there where plenty of surprises in store as well as a few letdowns.  What are some of the things that where important to you in the world of plus size fashion in 2006?  What are somethings that need improvement?

I think the most important thing that happened to me both professionally and personally was my new position at IGIGI which opened up a whole new world and a side of fashion to me that I was not really all that aware of. Glen, your piece actually inspired me to blog about my experience in the world of plus-size fashion tomorrow. Interested readers can find it at http://www.myspace.com/thefashionistique. Cheers. Ozlem,

I have enjoyed working with you these past few months. There have also been a lot of things that I learned just in the last few months that I had no clue about before I started this blog. I will be checking in on your blog to see what you have in store. Glad I could be an inspiration to you.
