2007 Golden Globe Awards: Is plus size the “in” thing in Holywood now?

Last night there where two young ladies America Ferrera (Ugly Betty) and Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) that won Golden Globe awards.  I started to think for a moment, is the face of females in television and movies starting to shift towards larger more real looking leading ladies?

For decades thin was it as far as the media was concerned.  The only time you saw a woman or man of size was as the bumbling sidekick that only did plucky comic relief.  Now I’m sure that both of these ladies didn’t set out to have the spot light shined on them and be talked about in size and beauty acceptance circles, but it is what it is.

On the side of the men I’m sure that Forest Whitaker has never set out to say that I am a big man hear me roar, but even his win hands a victory to big men around the world.

Though the voting for the Golden Globes came before the shake up in Italy and the news from the New York modeling world on model size, I think that it is safe to say that 2006 was the hammer that broke the door wide open for 2007.

There will be more ladies with hips and curves and more large size men in substantial rolls on television and the movies in the upcoming months.  We all know that Hollywood only goes where the money is.  I know it won’t be an open door policy for plus size actors and actresses the field will come to an almost level point where size won’t really matter.  Big may not be totally in yet but it definitely has a front row seat.
