8 Plus Size Community Contributors Who Will Shape The Future

When it comes to the plus size community there are many areas of interest that in years past recieved no more than support from those close to the insiders.  Going into the next decade there are a few gems you will want to keep your eyes on and get involved with now if you have not had an opportunity to do so.

Full Figured Fashion Week – Runway Modeling

I was blessed to be a part of this ground breaking event in 2009 and gearing up to be a part of this years activities in June.  ”produced by DeVoe Signature Events (DSE), an events management company with an extensive background in the production of plus size fashion related events, plus model training and management.” (Devoe Signature Events)  The Facebook group dedicated to updates about the event has over a thousand members and growing.  If you missed the ground breaking last year mark your calendars to be in New York in June.

SKORCH Magazine – Media

The first time I read SKORCH I was blown away not only by the writing but the beauty of the ladies featured.  One of the few online magazines filling the void left when longtime plus size magazines BBW and MODE went under SKORCH is taking subscriptions to the next level being available on the Apple Iphone with subscriptions at an unheard of price of $1!

Crystal Renn – Print Modeling

Introduced to the plus size world as a model for LaneBryant.com and other companies, she later went on to pen Hungry: A Young Model’s Story of Appetite, Ambition and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves as well as appear in numerous magazines showing the world the beauty of plus size women.  If you don’t know her then you are definitely in for a treat.

Hips and Curves – Plus Size Lingerie

Whether you are new to the Internet or not if you do a Google search for plus size lingerie Hips and Curves will always be at the top of the list.  For years this website has had some of the best in sexy lingerie.  It is worth your time to check them out and add them to your book marks.

Big Gals Lingerie – Sexy Clubwear

Though Big Gals Lingerie holds their own in the area of lingerie when I am asked about were to shop for clothes for a night on the town I always  suggest this merchant because the clothes don’t look trashy and the prices are fantastic!  The costumes, swimsuits, and shoes are just what the doctor ordered.

National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA) – Size Acceptance

This organization founded in 1969 has been quietly on the forefront of size acceptance in the US.  At the risk of upsetting some I think there needs to be more done on the marketing end for this organization to break into the mainstream to deal with the Meme Roth’s and Karl Lagerfield’s.  That being said they still get two thumbs up.

Plus Size Bloggers – Blogs

While I am tempted to name Full Figure Plus as the blog to watch there are so many plus size blogs dealing with so many topics that it would be unfair for me to name just one when so many are doing so much.  I know a lot has changed in the blogsphere since 2004 and I expect more to come in the next few years.  Regardless I still think that FFP is in the running for the top spot.

Sydney’s Closet – Plus Size Formal Wear

I know there are other websites that carry formal gowns, but when it comes to having dresses for all occasions at a great price for my money there are no other website that come to mind than Sydney’s Closet.  For prom season their are no other websites that even come close.

Considering the size of the plus size community it would be impossible to name everyone.  Those mentioned are the ones who stood out in my mind and mine alone.  I am sure there are those who feel some should be added while others removed.  Time will tell if I am right or wrong.  Regardless I am excited about all of the possibilities for positive activities related to everything coming from the plus size community as a whole.
