A beginners guide to blogging Part 1
One of the things that I have always had to deal with as a blogger is how to properly address those people that are new to blogging. Specifically those that are new to a blog that deals with plus size fashion and accessories more than the typical blog for plus sizes that deals with weight loss or size acceptance.
In this post I will cover some blog basics to get those that are new to blogging familiar with how blogs work. In the second part of this series I will cover the features that are a part of Full Figure Plus and its role in plus size fashion.
What is a blog?
“A blog is a user generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order.” Two years ago if someone would have said this to me I probably would have laughed in there face. But today knowing what I know I see it and clearly understand that basically a weblog or blog is a living website that the content can be change instantly.
What makes up a blog?
Every blog is different in some way or another, it depends on the author of the blog as to what you will see as far as the content. But no matter how blogs differ in look under the hood so to speak all blogs have the same basic elements.
- Title, the main title, or headline, of the post.
- Body, main content of the post.
- Permalink, the URL of the full, individual article.
- Post Date, date and time the post was published.
A blog entry optionally includes the following:
- Comments
- Categories (or tags) - subjects that the entry discusses
- Trackback and or pingback - links to other sites that refer to the entry
- Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0) - the little orange button that you see on many blogs and websites.
When you really think about it reading a blog is somewhat like reading an electronic version of a newspaper, but with out the many hands that go into a daily edition of your typical newspaper.
Who are Bloggers?
Years ago bloggers where mainly technology buffs that talked about the latest greatest items in the world of computers. Today bloggers come from every walk of life imaginable. Take for example my background is in construction and I took the idea to create a blog that would appeal to plus size men and women shopping online. As you can see even the most non-tech person can be a blogger.
What do people blog about?
Blogs range from technology to religion to politics and everything in between. As a blogger we give our opinions on products, services, world events, etc. Some blog for fun others like myself have made a business out of it. Bottom line people blog about something that they are passionate about.
