Three years ago Full Figure Plus readers were introduced to the Mexican Peubla Dress and a year later an update on this simple dress with the rich Native American heritage. Not long ago Miriam the creator of the Mexican Dress was kind enough to contact me to report on a new dress pattern, the Native American Triad Dress Pattern, and to let me know of the success of the sale of dress patterns and that the plus size patterns are selling very well.
For those not familiar with this type of dress it is a simple tunic design that celebrates the roots of Indian history from North, Central and South America. This dress takes inspiration from the three sacred crops; corn, beans and squash, which have formed the basis of North, Central and South American Indian diets for thousands of years. Additionally, the dress celebrates these life-giving plants in a beautiful way, and, like the Mexican dress pattern, this ultra-simple dress is made from just 3 rectangles. It makes a beautiful sun dress, can be used like a sarong to coverup at the beach or pool, or other daily wear. It can be worn with our without a belt and is really graceful.
If you are a person looking to reconnect to mother earth or looking for a project to be involved with that has a history involved with it you will surely enjoy the sewing on the Native American Triad Dress. The best part for those of you who have been curious about getting into sewing your own clothes this will be a perfect gateway into plus size sewing.
