UK e-zine “Just as Beautiful” does Things in a big way
I have actually been a subscriber to Just as Beautiful for three months now. I have enjoyed reading what the editors of the e-zine bill as “The Uk’s first free Lifestyle Magazine dedicated to the plus-size woman”. Just like in the mission statement it is free to all subscribers. Just send an email with your name and contact details to: subscriptions@justasbeautiful.co.uk.
What I like the most about this e-zine is that it is laid out in a way that makes for easy reading. It does take some getting used to reading a .pdf file but that doesn’t take from the fact that there is a lot of information for the readers.
Belle Noir: For Big Beautiful Women of Color
In my time of blogging for plus sizes I have had the opportunity to work with some fantastic ladies. One of those women is my good friend Aja Stubbs the founder and editor of Belle Noir, a ezine dedicated to “to promote the positive image of Big Beautiful Women of Color by featuring content (i.e. articles, poetry, photos, etc.) of an informative, entertaining, and inspiring nature, created specifically with the Big Beautiful Woman of Color in mind.”
Is Mo’Nique a good role model for plus size black women?
In reading my daily news feeds I came across a opinion poll on The Daily Journal asking has Mo’Nique, “sparked a revolution among heavy African-American women”. I don’t know about a revolution but I do know before she did Mo’Nique’s F.A.T Chance and wrote her book women of size in the black community where not as vocal and as visible as they are now in the mainstream.
Top 5 Plus Size events
There are a lot of things that are happening right now both on this blog and elsewhere. This summer stared off a wave of activity in the plus size modeling world with more and more events coming up as we get into the fall season.
- Bombshell Model search - The search for the covergirl of there first magazine is off to the races. If you feel you have what it takes then you need to enter this contest. Entry deadline is October 31st.
Plus Size fashion magazine experiences rebirth
If you have been into any Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug
or Catherines
then you have no doubt seen the issues of Figure magazine. For those that don’t know its Charming Shoppes monthly magalog that is mostly filled with advertising and coupons for the store that it is displayed in.
Normally a magalog is temporary, lasting for only a few issues. Figure has not only managed to stick around for three years but they are going through a major change. Meredith, publisher of Ladies’ Home Journal is taking over Figure giving it a new staff, overhauled editorial, and even a curvy new logo. The revamped title, a bimonthly, is now on newsstands.

I always like reading about positivie things in the plus size community so when I came across the press release I felt that I needed to share Raqui and Large in Charge are doing some great things. Keep up the good work folks and check them out.
