- Where do you call home? I currently live in Richmond, Virginia but travel very often to various places for fashion shows and events.
- Did the name Bella Styles come up before or after you started a blog? I got the nickname Bella as a youngster as sort of a joke but it kinda stuck with me through the years. I have always been stylish so when it came time to decide on a business name I combined the two to form “Bella Styles.”
One of the great parts about blogging is hearing from readers. Last weeks edition of the Full Figure News newsletter included a question, “Do you feel that plus size fashion is getting the respect it deserves?” I have my own opinion on this particular subject, but I wanted to hear from you guys to see if the state of the plus size community is changing or still has a long way to go.
Of the responses given there were a few that gave me reason to pause. The response that made me think the most was one that focused on designers, models, and the media. Full Figure Plus has some fantastic readers. If you have not signed up for the newsletter all it will cost you is your email address. To those who have signed up but have not confirmed your email all it takes is a few seconds to click the link.
I don’t think plus fashion gets the respect it deserves yet, but I do believe that alot of positive changes are taking place and soon the industry will have to respect it! We have great designers, beautiful models, were on tv, and we have our fashion weeks taking place all over, but NY is to me the creme de la creme the one to watch, kudos to Gwen DeVoe and Staff! We will not be ignored, or pushed to the back anymore!!! The Plus Size Fashion Revolution is underway!!! As a plus model I’m doing everything I can to help plus size get the respect we deserve.
Christine Traylor
I agree with Christine we are in the middle of a revolution! There are a ton of events happening all over the world and the plus size community will do its part to let it be known we will not be denied.

From reader comments come the most interesting posts and this question is no exception. Today’s subject is the shelf bra.
I’m interested in how to fit a shelf bra. I have a smaller band and larger cups, 32F/34E. I feel like the girls would pop right out of a shelf bra unless it was specifically made for larger breasts. Some tips on how to actually wear a shelf bra would be beneficial.
A shelf or open bra can be worn by someone with larger breasts but would not be very practical for daily wear or leaving the house. Taking my wife, for example who is a 42G, a shelf bra would be a waste of time because there simply is not enough material to support the size of her breasts. Read more...
Just like everything in life the term Full Figure has a different definition depending on who you talk to. For me when I think of full figure equals men wearing a pants size 38 and above and women size 18 and above. As you can see the perception that I have as to what I consider larger does not match what the supposed norm is.
In the world of modeling full figured is considered a size10/12. Depending on the year it is the fashion industry states that full figured is either a size 12 or a 14. Makes you wonder if there is a fashion forecaster that flips a coin during the Winter season to let the advertisiers and buyers know what the latest full figured numbers will be. Read more...
Its 2008 and what better way to start the new year off than by answering some reader questions. Last year Jennifer Hudson dazzled audiences on screen and with the debut of her album. With so much exposure the question was bound to come up about her clothes. The Full Figured Question of the day is: Where can I find plus size dresses like Jennifer Hudson wears?
The quick answer to the question is buy a Vera Wang or Escada original. Since most ladies and some men on a budget can’t afford to spend a months salary on one dress I have a few ideas to help out.
IGIGI was a favorite among plus size ladies last year. Several plus size celebrities including Jennifer Hudson could be seen about town in different dresses from this rising plus size merchant. The Valentine’s Day collection is a good example of dresses to make you look good regardless of the occasion. Read more...
