Today I am moving forward with the 10 Questions Series in which I give you the reader a look at some of the individuals in the plus community.  Today we get to know plus model LaTonya Mann who I got a chance to see on the runway this past Summer and knew she was destined for greatness.

Where are you from?

I am LaTonya ‘BUBBLES THE MODEL” Mann. Born in Memphis, TN. I a happy go lucky southern belIe. I currently reside in every major city that has a STAGE and 4 inch heels I can wear so I can “POP” down the runway!!

Is modeling a hobby or something you want to do full time?

I started modeling over 10 years ago. In the beginning it was for fun and socializing. Now, I am full-forced into making it a career. Currently, I am the Ceo of Marketing and Business Relations with fellow model/Founder Nikki “Hourglass” Moore of TRULY CURVY GIRLS .

Plus-Size Making a Splash Internationally

Last week I took over the Curvy Fashionista and wrote about plus-size fashion making a debut during New York Fashion week this year.  At the same time,  I was introduced to the term “Belle Epoque Fashion” which translates to “The golden age of fashion.”  While the fan in me of full figure fashion and full figure women agrees one hundred percent in this term part of me says yes no.  I wholeheartedly believe we in the United States are talking about plus-size issues more but internationally more strides are being made than ever.

Plus-Size Fashion to Appear During New York Fashion Week

Plus-size fashion during New York Fashion Week – This topic has been something floating around for quite sometime.  I most recently heard talk about it this Summer during Full Figured Fashion Week™.  It is no longer a rumor it IS going to happen this Fall OneStopPlus.com is bringing “the first ever plus-size-only runway show to the NY Fashion Week.  Part of me is excited about this news but at the same time the plus-only part bugs me though I like the theme which is themed Belle Epoque, the Golden Age plus-size fashion

I know that the size police will hang me for saying that I have a problem with the segregation of the ladies and I should just be happy that plus is in the house of an event that has a history of only showcasing size 6 and under models, but I my dream for plus-size fashion is for it to disappear into fashion in general and just be a part of the rest of fashion.  Below is part of the press release, if you want to read the rest read Plus-Size to Make Debut in New York Fashion Week With OneStopPlus.com

Beauty Reborn – UK Plus size fashion pageant

A while back I blogged about Charlotte Coyle and the documentary that she was doing to shed a positive light on plus size women in Great Britan. As a result of the documentary she has decided to do a beauty contest for ladies size 16 and up called Beauty Reborn.

I just hate that I will probably never see this show, but for those in Scotland you will be able to view it on local station channel 4. Coyle who originally gave up her US work visa to find more modeling opportunities in the UK during the filming of her documentary found the same problems that models in the US deal with.

Beatuty Reborn

“What started out as an attempt to make a documentary about seeing curves in a positive way,” as Coyle puts it, soon became a revealing expos on just how resistant the British fashion industry seems to be about embracing the idea that anyone over a size 12 could possibly want to dress fashionably.”
