On March 11, 2005 I wrote about the Freedom Paradise resort being at the time the only resort for people of size. To my knowledge there is no other resort like it today and I must say that I am a bit perplexed that there is not more of a buzz about a place that is size friendly in how the property is designed and how they cater to their clients. After reading the testimony below I am not sure why there is not more in the mainstream blog world about businesses like this. Read more...
One of the great things about doing what I do is encountering great people who have fantastic ideas. Recently through twitter I was introduced to 100% People a UK based size acceptance community. They are launching a campaign to increase awareness in the fashion industry particularly in the modeling realm were we all know that emaciation is the order of the day.
Kathryn Whatton and company have launched the Real Bodies Unite a global campaign to raise 10,000 signatures to show fashion houses they should use realistic bodies on the runway and in advertising. Additionally, Real Bodies Unite is appealing to all those women fed up of being bombarded with images of super-skinny, emaciated models. Read more...
After reading the top 10 plus-size predictions on the Curvy Fashionista I decided it was time for Full Figure Plus to get into the mix. There were lots of things that happened last year to leave me hopeful of things to come which will make my list a little different than others but at the same time on point. As usual regardless as to if you agree or not feel free to add your comments.

Thanks to reading a tweet from @BigGirlBlue I found out about The Adipositivity Project. The name is a mashup of Adipose: Of or relating to fat. Positivity: Characterized by or displaying acceptance or affirmation. I have always been a fan of showing plus-size women in all their beauty through photography.
Though I have gotten in trouble a few times over the life of Full Figure Plus for posting photos of semi-nude or nude photos in the name of size acceptance I will not stop. Thanks goodness the creator of the Adipositivity Project appears to not have the same problem.
MISSION:
The Adipositivity Project aims to promote size acceptance, not by listing the merits of big people, or detailing examples of excellence (these things are easily seen all around us), but rather, through a visual display of fat physicality. The sort that’s normally unseen. Read more...
I have been a fan of The Glamazons every since I first saw them years ago on America’s Got Talent. I hate I missed them perform when I was in New York this past Summer but the music goes on with the release of their first single “Sugar Rush”
with a video coming in 2010! It is great to see the plus-size revolution is taking on music as well as fashion. If you have never heard of the Glamzons check out the press release as well as their website! You will NOT be disappointed!
Did you save room for dessert? We hope so because The Glamazons are back and are as sweet as ever! You may remember Lady Finger (Meryl Finger), Candy Apple (Sandra May), Caramella (Laura Johnson) and Ginger Snap (Sarah Orr), the plus-size pop girl group whose mission is to show the world that talent comes in all sizes. The fierce foursome made it to the top 8 on the second season of NBC’s hit show “America’s Got Talent.” Read more...
The one thing I like about the current state of plus-size fashion is the bigger names are not afraid to speak their minds about the state of the industry. This is a physical manifestation of what I learned during Full Figured Fashion Week of letting your voice be heard regardless of what others think. I applaud Anna Scholz in her comments as well as her fantastic designer skills!
Stylist magazine recently examined unequal treatment of overweight people in the workplace. Alice Wignall’s article “Is Your Office Fattist” in the November 25th issue reveals that prejudices against overweight people still exist in the workplace today and are surprisingly widespread. These negative perceptions often affect the career progression, salaries and general colleague perception of overweight employees. Siz-ism, Wignall’s piece suggests, may be the “last permissible means of discrimination.” Read more...
