I first heard about Gemma Collins and her plus size collection about a week ago. The collection is online right now though the official launch is not until tommorrow. The early buzz is the collection will gross the UK reality star £1 million. From what I see in the collection and I maybe biased I don’t see that much being made ever.
The collection at first glance is boring. At least Gemma modeled her own clothes but with such a limited collection that appears on the surface to be thrown together so maybe she could not booking a model was not in the budget. With offerings below £100 I am sure the collection will stand out to those bargain hunters but I do not see much beyond that.
Another problem I have with this collection is the website is one of the worst I have been on in terms of navigation. Clicking on “gemmacollinsofficial.com” brings you to the page showing the folders of the website. Only when clicking on “store” do you come to the actual website that is not complete and is not fluid at all with the navigation. Not a good way to start out.
The photos above are from the website and honestly I was more impressed with the dress she wore on the UK morning show to talk about her clothes than what I saw on the website. Considering Gemma Collins is a UK size 18 which is a size 16 in the US you would think her clothes would go beyond a UK 22 or a US 20. I guess the problems with the look of the clothes and the navigation of the website transferred to the designers not being able to make clothes in larger sizes.
I applaud you Gemma for taking a step into the world of plus size fashion. A word of advice though. The water has been warmed up already so instead of just putting your toes in the water on the shallow end why not jump in the deep end and give the UK plus community as well as your supporters in other parts of the world more than a half baked effort.
