I think that’s the issue with me is the unknown complications. For every person who is a success there are cases that people die and that is what scares the daylights out of me.

i agree that many people use it as a quick way out. Lets hope we won’t hear of more people dying as a result of the surgery.

Catchy title!

Two twin friends of ours, one in the medical profession, went under last year. I was kind of surprised as they did not seem like people that would — they never complained about their weight, they were always mildly active etc. It is a drastic change both physically and emotionally without complications I can’t imagine how complications would tie into it.

I went to a weight loss seminar for lap band and gastric bypass. I succumbed to the hype. I admit it. But while they were explaining all the procedures, I couldn’t do it. I just think if God wanted you to have half a stomach or for something to be wrapped around your stomach, he would have made us that way. I have a lot of friends that have been through both surgeries, and have done great. I have one friend whose father died from complications from gastric bypass. It’s a scary frontier and while I do think it helps in EXTREME cases, I think some people use it as an easy way out. As a food addict, I understand issues people have with food. If you deal with those issues, then everything else will fall into place. I think 20 or 50 years from now a lot more complications will be found with these surgeries.

Hear, hear! But in defense of all the rude sales associates… they are only as good as the training they received and the management they work under. So in other words — they are not entirely to blame.
