Diary of a plus size blogger: Plus size fashion and men

I was talking with a friend last night and I was commenting on how being a man righting about plus size related things is a challenge. The most obvious challenge I face is the fact that when I go across the net there are few blogs or websites that deal solely with plus size fashion. Most are size acceptance related and they throw fashion in as part of the picture. The next area is the fact that I am a man. The majority of plus size sites out there are run by women and for certain every blog out there is headed up by ladies.

As a man even though I am a big man and have my own issues when it comes to buying clothing when people normally think about plus size and plus size fashion men don’t come to mind. Let face it fellas we are pretty easy to shop for. As long as we have some jeans and a boat load of t-shirts then most of us are ok.

But what about when its time to dress up? My unique problem comes in my arms and legs. Shirts that fit in the neck are usually too short in the arm and I am not big enough to shop at the big and tall stores. I usually end up buying whatever shirt that I want and having it altered. As far as pants go, from my time of weight training, my thighs are larger so I have to deal with pants that fit in the waist but are uncomfortable in the thigh. Once again my option is to get them altered.

For these reasons and because I have lots of female friends as well as my wife is why I started Full Figure Plus. When I started this blog I was pretty lost in what I really wanted to do and even more lost as to if I would concentrate on men’s or women’s fashions. I found over time that the majority of the people that frequent my blog are female and they tell men about things that I have listed. Though this is not what I really set out to do when it comes to dealing with the issues that larger men face in the fashion world, I want to be a resource that plus size individuals period can use.

That is the main reason the ever growing links section was taken off the front page and given its on home. Though the links are a very important component of my blog they are not nearly as important as the information that I blog about daily. Because there is little written in regard to plus size men if there is anything that does come up then I wanted the words to speak louder than the links.

Remember tomorrow is the beginning of the blog carnival. I am excited about being a part of it becasue with being one of few men involved I think that I will add an interesting twist to the carnival at least I hope I do.
