When I read about this contest that is on The Opie and Anthony show that airs on XM Satellite and saw the video that was connected to it all I could do was groan. I mean having a contest of this name that is openly soliciting fat people to come down be weighed and they will pay them $10 per pound if they are the winner of the contest is just not a good thing.

In the clip that I saw they proceeded to humiliate a black woman asking her if she ate whole turkeys or entire pizza’s and laughing at her while she got on the scales. Now there is one part of me that says that if she didn’t want to be publically humiliated then she shouldn’t have VOLUNTARILY showed up at the studio. The other part of me says it doesn’t matter becasue if there was not an open air of discrimination against people of size then a contest by this name would never exist in the first place.
If this is the type of expression that will be showing up on satellite radio then I know fully understand why supporters of traditional radio are protesting the way that they do.
I have a feeling that since its a radio contest that they prize money will not be in actual cash and that will be yet another slap in the face of these women that are being laughed at because of there size.

I’m a big fan of Opie and Anthony, and I read your blog, and I’m a plus size girl. I have to tell you that you really need to be a fan of the show in order to get it. In fact, the only girls who are being marketed to, and coming in, are fans of the show who get it.
They may say some racy things to them, but I know personally that they do not go past the limit of the girl on, they clear everything with her, and they understand what is said.
From the outside looking in, I can see your disgust. But this is truly one of those ‘you have to be a listener, to understand the whole thing”

Thanks for commenting Jessica. I guess for me this type of radio wouldn’t attract me as a fan. Call me old fashioned, but I don’t get it. I can see your point though that the ladies that are participating are fans of the show, I just don’t see the need for over the top humor like this.
