With the push of international brands into the US plus size fashion arena finding your size can be confusing to say the least.  While I preach till I am blue in the face about knowing your size and consulting size charts before you click buy, I realize that plus size fashion has been on life support for so many years that when so many new companies hit the scene your credit card starts to itch with anticipation.

Today are a few comparison tips to help you when it comes to figuring out the difference between US and International size charts.

Step One
Ignore the number on the tag and buy what looks best on your plus size frame

Step Two
Don’t pass out when you look at the numbers from other countries.

This example is taking a size 24(US) and converting it across the major countries in consideration for plus size fashion.

  • US 24 or 3X
  • UK 26
  • Japan 27
  • Germany 52
  • Australia 54
  • France 56
  • Italy 58
Step Three
Measure measure measure
Step Four
If you can find fashions from each of the above countries in your area try them on to see EXACTLY how clothes from other regions fit you.  Remember the number does not matter! its the fit!  Measure yourself or have a professional do it and keep the numbers handy.
Step Five
Check out the size charts of your favorite merchants online.  For a quick look this is these are the size charts for IGIGI(US), Evans(UK), City Chic(Austrailia).  FYI: Both Evans and City Chic have opened up websites catering to the US but it should be assumed that their clothes are still based on international size charts.

The one thing to remember when it comes to size charts is there is absolutely no regulation when it comes to sizes. Each designer has his or her own vision in mind when they design their clothes in particular plus size designers. Many plus size designers start of designing their own clothes and move from their.

With so many more options available outside of the US be sure if you are going to order from an international company, even if they have a presence in the US consult their size chart to cut down on the amount of frustration you have to deal with.
