Not long ago the world lost one of its brightest angels. Mia Amber Davis was called home yesterday. For many she was the ultimate icon in the plus modeling industry but for me she was the ultimate role model with the many hats that she wore. Model, Actress, Producer, Business Woman, Spokesperson, Advocate and more.
I first saw Mia in the movie Road Trip and was immediately drawn to not only her character but the person behind the character. I was honored to meet her in person while sitting on a panel during Full Figured Fashion Week™. An honor in which I had the privilege of being able to witness the awesome wisdom she possessed in terms of the trails and tribulations of the plus size community. Simply put I am glad that I did not have to speak right after her because I think I would have had a hard time finding my words.
“Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.” –Pslams 126:5-6 NIV
I had to stop writing to pick up my bible and do a bit of reading to help heal the pain in my heart for someone who I had met and gotten to know who was taken away so suddenly. I believe that God has a plan for Mia and for all of us. The outpouring of love for Mia across the Internet means though people will be shedding tears the songs in which they will sing through thier works will bring great joy to the world. The sheaves will be the collection of the body of work compiled by those in the plus community and beyond who were inspired by Mia.
Twice in October of 2010 I encountered Mia. Once during the JMS Symposium and the second time during the Fuller Woman Expo. During these events I was able to see the model during one event and the business woman and speaker during the other event. As always I was blown away by the passion and drive in her words and her works. It was truly a blessing to see and hear her in action.
Though the community lost an angel, advocate, and spokesperson the seeds she sowed will come to fruition in terms of others carrying on her works and taking things to the next level. I also predict during Full Figured Fashion Week™ this Summer the award she won, Plus Runway Model of the Year, will involve a dedication like none ever witnessed. It will give a whole new meaning to the slogan “Curvy Girls Rock.”
Be sure to stop by the fan page for Mia and whether you knew her personally, met her or just admired her work share your comments on Full Figure Plus as well as all over the Internet to share with others and to to show Mia who is probably producing a magazine or runway show in heaven as we speak that we love her and will she live on in the hearts and mind of those who simply adored her.
