As I look through my notes in regard to the The PLUS Side of Business during the 2010 Full Figured Fashion Week™ activities I can’t help but reflect on the people who attended the panel.  There was representation from literally around the world who came to hear the words from those on the panel and myself talk about starting a business with a plus focus whether it is a blog like Full Figure Plus or designing plus size clothes for IGIGI.  The house was packed with ladies from of course New York, but when I found out there were ladies in attendance from Canada, France, Brazil, and Great Britain I was blown away.

If that does not tell you that there are people out there hungry for information on how to best serve the plus community I don’t know what will.  I was paying just as much attention to the words being said as those in attendance and let me tell you there was some great information being given out.

Jennene Biggins

Not only did Jennene and the Voluptuous Woman Company host the panel but the president herself talked about business branding and how important it is to make sure that your brand is consistent across the Internet.  What is business needs to be completely separate from personal.  With a wealth of websites on the Internet Jennene did a great job of moderating the panel and sharing her own personal knowledge with the group.

Stephanie Penn-Danforth

Stephanie is the editor-in-chief of DailyVenusDiva.com and talked briefly about being ready when opportunity presents itself.  She spoke on starting off as a contributor then moving up to editor and chief while staying true to what you believe in.  As it stated in her bio being diverse while being consistent with your message is key to building a sustainable business.

Tonye Fubara

Tonye spoke on getting a trademark for your business and what she went through to secure one for her soon to be launched lingerie business melons and peaches.  She touched on the cost of the trademark is nothing compared with protecting your intellectual property which is something I made sure to pay close attention to.

Kimmoy Matthews

I first met Kimmoy last year and spoke on her plus business tele-summit.  Known as “The Curvy Coach” she spoke briefly on your business model, knowing your cash flow, being clear to your audience, and popularity does not equate to being rich.

Glen Johnson

I spoke briefly on starting a blog based business and running it like any other business by making sure you take care of back office tasks like registering your business name, securing your domain name, and other legal details before you actually start doing business.

Rhonda Wilkins

Rhonda head of Diva’s Unlimited touched on how she started off singing then modeling then getting into fashion show production.  This was the first time I heard working the “underground” circuit and trading services until you get to the point of having a sustained business model .

Yuliya Raquel

As the head designer of IGIGI Yuliya spoke on her business model being about the customer who is powerful. demanding, and knows what they want.  She also touched on making clothes for a real size 20 not a size 20 for a woman who is 6’4″ and is large but not the same as the average size 20.

The best part of the panel was answering questions from the audience like finding out from ladies in the UK and France that if ladies in the US think they have nothing then in other countries ladies have to deal with less than nothing to find quality plus-size clothing with the majority of their shopping coming from outside their native country.

Overall the panel was great I learned alot, met some great people, and met some fantastic individuals.  To everyone I met thank you for taking the time out of your day to sit and listen to what I had to say as well as the other panel members.  By the way if anyone who attended has some pictures with me in the do you mind sharing?

  1. What a great group of people Glen. You included. I would have loved to have been there but it’s not quite the time for me yet…if you read my blog you’ll know what I mean.
I very much hope when I do go there – there is another session like this I can experience also. With standing room only it seems that it was a winner!
    Best,

      V,

We will be in LA in October maybe that will be your time. I would like to see more international influence and I know you would offer quite a bit of insight.

Again, it was pretty cool to learn from and meet you and the other panelists as well. I too was impressed with the international presence for our panel. It really gave me the added boost to keep doing what I’m doing; the opportunities are plentiful!

  3. I loved being on this panel!! Everyone had so much to share and those who attended were open to receive what we were sharing.
