Full Figured Questions - Is Full Figured Really The In Thing Now?
Yesterday while talking to a group of guys at the local cigar shop we started talking about the size of kids. One of the gentlemen commented that his son has always dated full figured girls. I stated that one of my daughters friends was trying to figure out how to gain weight for fear that she would not be noticed by the boys at her school because she was not big.
The question for this week, “Is Full Figured Really The In Thing Now?” I think that it is and its just not becuase men like me have a preference for larger ladies. Part of the reality is we as Americans are bigger now than we were thirty years ago. Boys are bigger and taller, girls are developing breasts at an earlier age and starting their monthly cycle sooner than in years past. In other words kids are just bigger and more worldly than I was back in the 80’s.
When companies like Hottopic and Torrid are targeting younger shoppers not to mention long time plus size fashion merchants like Lane Bryant try to appeal to a younger audience it’s apparent that fuller figures are poised to hit the mainstream. I realize that plus sizes for men and women have always been around but they are were not as visible as they are today. Even three years ago when I started Full Figure Plus I had no clue as to the direction that the plus size industry would take.
As teenagers who have access to more money now than ever shop for fashionable clothes it will feed the demand from adults to follow similar shopping trends. Traditional retailers that have deliberately stonewalled plus size clothing in their stores will either join the multi-billion dollar plus size and big and tall clothing movement or be left out.
Full figured is in and here to stay. Regardless as to what critics say people are just bigger today which means there are more hips and curves. If people who openly discriminate against people of size could be weeded out as well then it would be a perfect world. We can always hope.

Hmmm… I don’t know if it’s “in” but I know that’s it’s here. If one can distinguish the difference.

The “full figured” concept by the clothing outlets and advertisers, really represents average size people.
The “plus” sizes are for people with average build - as I see it.
Persons who really would describe themselves as “full figured” (such as my wife) cannot find clothing that fits them when they look at clothing described as “plus” sizes for “full figured” people. The models don’t match the descriptions either - to me they are about average weight and proportion.
Somebody ought to take a realistic approach to what “full figured” people really look like and make clothing for them

Miles,
A few years ago i would have whole heartedly agreed with you that is the reason I started my blog to show that there are more options for plus size women and big and tall men available on the internet.
As for models that is an area that needs to reflect body shapes desperately.

I appreciate that Glen - but there sure isn’t much for anyone with b. over 58″ (or I for bra) and h. over about 66.
All the ‘x’ sizes all assume that w. is about the same as b. too. That isn’t realistic, most women have b. larger than w. and for women who are a bit on the large size h. is typically larger than b.
I think the answer by a lot of clothing outlets is, ‘if you’re that heavy you ought to lose some weight’ but this will only really work for people whose w. is large.
So I pay a lot to special order clothing for my wife and some manuf. will take special orders and most don’t. That is because their most of their merchandise comes from their suppliers in China and elsewhere, and there is no way for them to do it

I think it is time to celebrate “real women.” Real women are confident, sexy and beautiful no matter their shape or size. Pluscupid.com is convincing that big is beautiful.
