Has Your Body Shape Been Influenced by Trya Banks?

Share

A few weeks ago when I wrote about Tyra losing weight after the tearful cry on her show for critics to “Kiss her fat ass” I honestly have not given her another thought.  When I read the article Tyra Banks Named “Most Influential Body Shaper” by OK magazine I was trying to think what has she really done and why is it that she has been cast in the role of rooting for plus size women.  The last time I checked in the world of plus size modeling big women are considered anyone over a size 10 but heaven forbid she be beyond a size 14.

I could be wrong but I don’t think that I am. Tyra has done a lot to get people to look at larger models, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say she is the most influential in shaping body image.  I would give that crown to Mo’Nique who is not a supermodel but with Mo’Nique’s F.A.T. Chance has galvanized the masses of large women around the world.  So much so that I still get emails and comments on Full Figure Plus from ladies that think that I am her.

Trya Banks has done a lot to showcase ladies in a way that they don’t look like emaciated 12 year old boys, but I just don’t see her in the role that the magazine portrayed her in.

When you think of your body shape who is influential in your eyes?

    Glen,

I agree. Tyra had a chance to show her beautiful, larger than a size 10 body to the world with self confidence and self esteem. If someone wants to lose weight I say go right ahead. But Tyra has capitalized on her weight loss for self promotion while using the message that thin is better than fat and this, I believe, is shameful.

Meanwhile Mo’Nique celebrates a woman’s beauty at every size. She wears the positive body image crown.

Thanks Glen for bringing this up.

  2. She has definitely sent conflicting messages to the masses

I have always struggled with finding clothes that fit me just right. I don’t know how many times I have gone to the mall only to come home in total frustration, vowing to never shop again. Usually, I try on 50 different things and find something wrong with each one of the items I pick.

For some reason, the clothes always look better on the hanger, only to make me want to scream when I try them on. Completely frustrated after a recent shopping nightmare, I did some research.

I found a website that has really helped. It helped me understand my body type and why certain things look better than others. They used a very creative way to describe my body shape. As it turns out, I am a Sapphire.

If you are like me, and hate shopping because of the frustration involved, check it out. The website is http://www.holobi.com. I am not sure if I will buy any of the clothes from the site because I like trying things on first, but I did buy the holobi product and love it.

    Can’t wait to go shopping!!!

  5. Jenny,

I can see how a site like Holobi would be a help in finding the right clothing to fit your body type. Good luck on your journey!
