How To Prevent Size Shock And Frustration When Buying Clothes

Today I want to talk about ending the shock and frustration that plauges plus size women when shopping for clothes.  Yesterday I had a conversation with a few young ladies and the point was made that ladies frequently say they are a size smaller than they actually are.  To take it a step further they experience the fashion equvilent of road rage going into a store thinking they are one size and nothing fits.

Background Information:

  1. There is no size regulation in the fashion industry a size 16 in one store is a size 8 in another.
  2. It is common for designer clothing to lower the size number and increase the price.
  3. Manufacturing patterns do not take into account sizes above a 16.
  4. Many companies do not want to be associated with fat people.
  5. Unless it is a specialty store clerks are not properly trained to deal with larger customers.

Anti-Frustration Tips:

  1. Have a professional seamstress measure you from head to toe so you will know your size.
  2. Avoid high priced “vanity” items.  Typically you will pay more.
  3. Shop for your body type not what is popular.
  4. Shop only at stores that cater to larger sizes.
  5. Know how the sizes run at your favorite store.

As you can see these tips are common sense items but from talking to the ladies yesterday it is obvious that part of the frustration level of many curvy divas comes simply from not knowing what size they really are and getting caught up in the tag switch.

By knowing what size your hips and curves really are, dressing to impress will be a lot easier and a lot less taxing on your clothing budget.
