Last night I was asked a question about finding a good suit for a big and tall man without breaking the bank.  Here locally we have the usual suspects of Paul Bunyan’s and Casual Male XL! but what is a man to do when faced with trying to purchase a big and tall size suit when both time and money are at a premium?

1. Know your size.  Seek out a tailor and be measured from head to toe.  Having these measurements handy will save lots of time and money
2. Shop were professional athletes shop to unsure the merchant caters to your size
3. Know the occasion the suit is needed for.  An everyday suit is different from a wedding suit or if this is your first suit ever
4. If you are low on suits be prepared to purchase one in black, blue, and brown
5. Research, research, research both online and in stores to discover what styles fit your unique frame
6. Consider buying items you know are too big and having them altered to your size

Below are a few websites catering to the professional needs of big and tall men.  Though I normally always recommend websites for buying clothes in the case of a big and tall suit I suggest visiting a brick and mortar store to try on as many suits as you can stand and to ask questions about what style bests suits your frame.  In this case we will concentrate more on fitting your frame than the cosmetic aspects because it makes no difference if it looks great on the hanger and bad on you.

Bonus: The cost of a custom suit can range from $600 to $25,000.  For those on a tight budget consider seeking out a local haberdasher to have a suit and at least 3 shirts.  Though more expense you will have access to your exact measurements which will be important on future shopping trips.
