This year the traditional day to mark the beginning of the Christmas shopping season which is better known as Black Friday should be interesting this year with all of the financial woes that we are suffering from right now and all the buzz around the transition of power to a new President.
With that being said how are millions of Americans going to get past this annual ritual of spending excess? I know that I will not be part of the mad crowds that are blazing through the stores but if you are part of the faithful here are a few tips from an outsider that I think will help you out.
- Spend less than the average. It is said that an average of $716.00 per person will be spent.
- Do recon on the stores that are closing down. Double your savings that way.
- Map out the stores that you will shop and set a time limit for your shopping excursion.
- Stay home and eat breakfast while watching CNN.
- Pump up Cyber Monday to those that normally do Black Friday.
As you can see there really is no magic formula for shopping during this annual exercise of excess, but with the economic uncertainty that is going on in the US today I wonder how long before the retail sector gets in line for the government to bail them out, while trying to make the arguement that without the benefit of Black Friday they will go out of business within thirty seconds. Happy shopping.
