I Found My Personal Style Now What?

If you have read some of the other posts on style and body type over the past few days I bet you are saying, ok that’s all fine and dandy, I think I have found my personal style now what?  The first step if you haven’t already done it is to start shopping.  Whether it is online or in person you need to start getting clothes.  Not that your current clothes need to be thrown out but the only way to become one with your new self is to practice.

How Do I Know What Clothes to Get Rid of?

  1. Throw out or donate it if it doesn’t fit (Donating will bring you a nice tax break – US Only)
  2. Everything that is too short
  3. Anything that reveals your panties or panty line
  4. Anything you have been wearing for more than five seasons
  5. See through or tops with gaps

I know all this talk about style and wardrobe has some of you saying what happened to fashion being about having fun with my closet?  The quick answer is that it is still their but your new goal as a plus size woman on the go should be to look your best no matter what.  With change like that there are going to be some things you have done in the past that will have to be removed to make room for the new items.

According to Coco Chanel, ‘If a woman is poorly dressed you notice the clothes. If she is impeccably dressed you notice the woman.’

I know for some of you a smile hit your face because you are thinking about your fellow sister that you saw walking down the street with a pair of low rider jeans, a top that is too short, and ratty looking flip-flops.  If you want people to say look at that confident, sexy, sassy woman then unfortunately there are a few things you have to do to make that happen.

What Do I Buy?

Honestly the answer to this is up to you but to steer you in the right direction here are a few things to keep in mind when starting to shop:

  1. When you think about your current wardrobe is there any consistency in color?
  2. Do the items fit your current lifestyle?
  3. Do I have a closet full of classic, faddish, or in-between clothes?

With all of these things to think about it would be worth it to consult with a personal stylist who can help you apply all this techy stuff leaving you to just look good in the clothes you buy.  Tomorrow I will talk more about dealing with a stylist and what you should get out of a consult.

Good article Glenn. Here is another one to add to your list. If you have not worn it in a year and still has the tags on it, let it go!
