Introducing The Ms. Greater Houston Plus America 2009-2010

The great part about blogging is meeting interesting people.  As part of the Beauty of the Week on Full Figure Plus I was afforded the opportunity to meet Sonja Elise Freeman Ms. Greater Houston Plus America 2009-2010 which is part of the Miss Plus America Pageant System.  For those who don’t know about the Miss Plus America Pageant System Chenese Lewis was Miss Plus America 2003 putting Sonja in some pretty good company.

In the spirit of full disclosure I must say that Sonja came to my attention not only because of her reign as Ms. Greater Houston Plus America, but because after exchanging a few emails with her I realized how much I missed the time I lived in Houston. But enough mushy stuff about me.

Born in Queens, New York but raised in Houston, Texas Sonja Elise is a proud graduate of Fort Bend Independent School District Willowridge High School and Prairie View A&M University, a part of the Texas A&M University system, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance with a minor in Fashion Merchandising & Design. She continued her studies at Rice University where she studied Music Business within the Continuing Studies Program. Most recently she received a leadership certificate from the Inspire Women Leadership Institute at the Dallas Theological Seminary in Houston.

She wrote the school song for Thurgood Marshall High School in Stafford, Texas in 2001 and is a member of ASCAP & the Recording Academy that issues the Grammy Awards annually. Most recently Sonja Elise was selected to be a Harvey Star Washington Model, who started the career of Golden Globe winning Actress/Comedian Mo’Nique of BET’s The Mo’Nique Show, out of 8500 inquires and plus models auditioned.

Sonja Elise is the Executive Director for Divine Voices Media, a production, marketing and career coaching company that specializes in assisting young adults who would like to pursue their dreams while maintaining peace in their spirit.

As you can see Sonja is quite talented and with her resume of accomplishments I expect to see her do many things not only for plus size women everywhere but in changing the lives of young people through her company.  It was a pleasure to meet Sonja just like past Beauty of the Week winners she will be featured for the next few days.  Maybe I will get a chance to do lunch with her when I make a trip to Houston later this year.
