Is Gastric Bypass a safer option?
In the last year or so between the high profile cases of people getting gastric bypass surgery including the likes of Al Roker, Star Jones, and Carnie Wilson not to mention now three friends of mine that have had the same surgery it made me think is having weight loss surgery (WLS) really the answer to losing weight.
I am far from saying that people who have WLS are wrong for having a procedure like this done, because each situation is a case by case situation. Where my questions come from is what happens in the long term for this quick road to a smaller shape. I personally lost 75 pounds in 15 weeks and my whole thought process changed about everything. I wonder if losing in some cases up too two hundred pounds in ninety days or less affects the mind as well as the body because of the speed of which the weight comes off.
Blogging about this from my stand point is really only speculation on the side effects of losing so much weight so fast. One of the ladies that I know that had WLS last year now says that she doesn’t like to see herself naked because of the fact that she has all the loose skin hanging off and unlike the celebrities that had the surgery, she can’t afford to have the excess skin removed. She is hoping that she can be accepted into a case study in another state so that she can get the surgery paid for as part of participating in the study. Not to mention she worksout almost daily trying to lose more weight, which honestly to me this kind of made me say, couldn’t all this dedication come without going under the knife?
The fact that a person that undergoes WLS is forever changed in how they eat, move, think is the one part about WLS that I think is not positive. Not being able to eat this or that because of changes that the body has gone thru that amount to not only rejection of the food thru throwing up but being in pain. For my money I think if I spend that kind of money I think that pain should be something that I have to become accustomed to if I “act bad”
Since I have never been to the point that I would consider WLS I can’t say what is anyone’s mind when they go thru the process in order to have the surgery. I am on the sideline in a total mode of speculation as to if it will be helpful or harmful to someone in the long run. As I gain more insight on this issue it will for sure show up in blog form.
