Is Mo’Nique Laughing At Fat Gurls?
After reading an article about Mo’Nique and her new children’s book I came away with one question. Is she laughing at the ladies and some gents that she once championed?
My reason for posing this question surrounds the articles mention of the elusive “Fat Gurl” online clothing line. As far as I have been able to find out the only clothes that have come out connected to her have been the jeans that are connected to the Phat Girlz movie.
I realize that saying that she is laughing at fat gurls is a strong accusation but how can we explain the mysterious cancellation of F.A.T. Chance, the disappearance from the public eye for months, the sudden weight loss, revealing article in Essence all that appear on the surface to be opposite of the big girl champion mantra that her career was built on.
In the end she maybe still on the side of plus sizers but her associations and actions make me wonder what is going on. Full Figure Plus still gets many comments and emails from ladies that admire her for everything that she has inspired them to do, but I still wonder if all of the “skinny women are evil” blah, blah, blah was just a launching platform into another direction that does not include fat people?
If anyone in particular someone from the Mo’Nique camp could comment or email the blog to let readers know if there is actually a clothing line that isout and were can the items be purchased and answer the question behing her true role in speaking to and for the plus size community.

It would be a real pity if plus size women now lose Mo’nique as a role model… she has been great at giving curvy women confidence! Perhaps curvy ladies should start looking at other women as role models, it’s always bad to just focus on one particular person. People like Queen Latifah and Camryn Manheim come to mind, who are true role models. They might not sign and shout about their confidence, but just looking at how they carry themselves and their achievements, to me make them excellent role models for plus sizes.

Sarah,
I agree with you totally. I think that Mo’Nique did some very outspoken things that struck a cord with many women and some men. The sad part is that plus size folks get a role model then something happens and they flip to the other side.
