Is That Shoe Worth What You Paid For It?

Web Design Contest Vote

In the original post, I talked about some of the things that are involved in the price of a shoe and is the shoe really worth the price. Exotic leathers, cutting edge design, extra construction all play into the cost of a shoe. But does a shoe that has some extra stitching on the sole really justify a five hundred dollar price tag? For some yes others no. In the end it comes to look and feel which is something you can’t put a price on. A few things that you should look for when shoe shopping are:

  1. Design - If the shoe looks like something from another world and you have a wide flat foot that doesn’t like to be contorted then you may want to leave wild designs alone.
  2. Stitching - Any shoe that has stitching on the sole is going to last longer than one that is glued in place.
  3. Heel - The heel needs to be part of the overall design of the shoe and not a separate piece that is glued in place. Broken heels can result in injuries.

Sometimes you have to pay for quality and comfort which means if a particular shoe costs eight hundred dollars then there is nothing that anyone can say or do to stop you from getting that shoe. When it comes to plus size ladies with wider feet comfort is just as important as look.

Essentially all shoes no matter the brand name are made in only a few places in the world. China makes almost 40% of the worlds shoes using the same materials or cheap knockoffs. By the time a shoe that is made from fifteen dollars worth of material comes back to the United States the price will go up by as much as 1000%.

With that in mind remember cost does not always equate to quality. A forty dollar pair of pumps that has been properly stitched is worth more in the long run than a two-hundred dollar pair of shoes that has been glued together and falls apart after a few months.
