Kiss the Curves is Set to Make Plus-Size Fashion History

There are only so many hours in the day to attend events.  I wish I was able to attend the Kiss the Curves event, but I digress.  Things are kicking off with an open call model search and ending with the historic event.  Full Figure Plus friend MarieDenee will be in the house.  If nothing else it is worth it to see an up and coming figure in the plus community and a historic show all at the same time!

What: Kiss The Curves “The first ever plus-size fashion gala in the Bay area.”

When: Saturday, February 6, 2010 Champagne hour is from 6-7p.m. and the Fashion show starts at 7 p.m.

Where: The Midtown Ballroom, 420 14th Street, Oakland, CA 94612

Why: So women can identify with someone who looks like them and familiarize themselves with retailers who target plus-size women.

With only a few weeks away from the West Coast’s most anticipated plus-size fashion event of the New Year, Kiss the Curves: “The First Ever Plus-Size Fashion Gala in the Bay,” Igigi to discover the hottest plus-size models to grace the runway February 6, 2010 at the Historic Sweets Ballroom in Oakland, CA. The open call which is scheduled for Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM, will be held at Igigi’s San Francisco Headquarters, located at 1547 Mission Street.

Hosted by Bay Area’s Quiet Storm 102.9 KBLX-FM radio personality, Sterling James, showcased designers at Kiss the Curves will include retailers such as Ashley StewartIgigiMarie Denee, Corinthia Peoples DesignsChocolate Sushi Couture, A Clothes MindTru Diva and Isle’s of Paradise. Selected models will be seen by hundreds of show attendees, which will include several members of the media, industry professionals and dignitaries.

Attendees will be treated to a pre-show VIP champagne hour starting at 6 PM, a spectacular runway show choreographed by renowned runway and talent coach Charleston Pierce, followed by an after party celebration at the venue that will include live entertainment, cash bar, hors d’oeuvres and the opportunity to shop retailers from the show.

Pre-sale tickets to Kiss the Curves for general admission are currently on sale for $20, with VIP tickets on sale for $35 and can be purchased through Airbourne Tickets. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25 on the day of the event.

Tracie Collins, plus-size model, actress, writer, and executive producer, is an in-demand Renaissance woman who personifies perseverance, while proving that dreams do come true.  Born and raised outside of San Francisco, California, Tracie began attending Actor’s Conservatory Theatre (ACT) at the tender age of nine.
Throughout her formative years she took vocal lessons and learned the art of stagecraft.  As time went on, her love of the arts and creative talents lead her to land significant roles in theatre; portraying characters such as “Lorelle” in the Broadway musical DreamGirls and “Pam” in Misery Loves Company.
Determined to reshape superficial minds and show young women a more realistic image of beauty, Tracie set out on her modeling debut.   She has modeled in runway shows forAshley Stewart, Mocha Bride Magazine, Rip the Runway in The Bay, City of OaklandArts; been in print ads for Orisa Wear Fashions and graces the book cover for VanViva Photography.
Her mission includes continuing her acting career with the hopes of landing roles in feature films and major motion pictures, finalizing a script for her own movie production, and gearing up for the release of her book, BedtimeStories,a series of sixteen short adult stories,which goes to publication in 2010.

    I so wish I was able to attend this event. I did a recent column in SKORCH magazine sand this was one of the events i let the audience know to watch out for. Something tells me that this fashion show is going to be a smash hit.
