When it comes to shopping do you shop by your size or your shape? When it comes to talking to my mannequin I mean my wife about how she approaches fashion she shops based on her shape which means there are several times she chooses items that are far beyond her comfort zone but look good on her body. Joy Wilson fashion stylist for UK plus size clothing site Fashion World has broken the plus size body type into five categories. The categories are apple, pear, strawberry, hourglass, and rectangle. In doing so you can shop for your body type meaning you will have a larger selection of items to choose from.
According to the Shape Finder Website:
If you love fashion – but hate being restricted by the limited ladies’ clothing choice in your size – Fashion World is for you! With all the latest looks in a UK plus size fashion range of sizes 12-32 the possibilities are limitless. Everything you need is right there at your fingertips: online at our UK website Fashionworld.co.uk, and in your copy of the latest Fashion World catalogue.

To make the process easy on you the shopper there is a series of questions to answer to help you find out what your shape is. Based on the measurements of my lovely assistant it was suggested that she was an Apple shape. At this point I was automatically taken to a page within the Shape Finder website that showed wardrobe categories broken down to Dresses, Jeans & Trousers, Skirts, Tops, Coats & Jackets, Underwear, Footwear, and Accessories.
You can either browse by category or click to see everything in the collection. Once you click on a single item you are taken to the Fashion World website for that item. For the purposes of this review I clicked on a bra. Upon being transported to the main website and clicking on the dropdown list it revealed that my wifes size 42G was sold out but it impressed me that it was even available! Fashion World appears to have a relationship with fashion consultant Gok Wan who through his television show and website is an advocate for women dressing for their body type. Knowing that you will have the opportunity to shop based on the mini-consultation of two industry experts should ease some of your shopping fears.
Because of the ease of the process I can see how shopping by your shape would be a benefit to many plus size women who normally get frustrated and confused when it comes to going shopping either online or in brick and mortar locations. Joy and the ShapeFinder website offer UK plus size women, sorry USA divas, an excellent option when it comes to shopping. Take advantage of the Falls Sales going on now to revamp your wardrobe!

Glen that’s a very clever shop by shape design on their website (I’m jealous). As a plus size clothing retailer I often lament the fact that many plus size women don’t know that they should shop by shape. I think the smartest companies are finding ways to provide this information in innovative ways. This is actually one of the best shop by shape designs I’ve seen and rates right up there with Igigi’s.
