Why would the producers of the reality show “More To Love” which will feature a big man searching for love among plus size beauties not have auditions in the city that their partner is headquartered out of? In case you have been under a rock for the past few weeks Lane Bryant, plus size fashion retailer has teamed up with the show to hold auditions in several stores around the country.
Auditions are taking place in Edison, N.J., on Friday; Houston on Saturday; Philadelphia on April 16; and in Dallas, Los Angeles and New York City on April 18. Auditions already have been held in Atlanta, Chicago and Raleigh-Durham, N.C.
Charming Shoppes which is based in Columbus, Ohio purchased Lane Bryant in 2001, yet this reality show is holding auditions in other cities ignoring Columbus. According to the LB representatives the decision was not theirs it was up to the producers of the show. In my opinion this is a HUGE oversight to not hold auditions in the stores closest to the company headquarters. While in some circles this may be viewed as not a big deal, from a logistical standpoint of giving company executives a peek into what is going on in their stores it just makes sense. Not to mention just plain old good PR all the way around.
Ultimately, I will not fuss too much about the auditions for the show not being held in Columbus, OH becasue I am happy that the show is happening period and that there will be somewhat of a representation of both men and women that reflect the size range of most of the individuals in this country. If I was going to really be upset I would have mentioned that there are NO auditions in Little Rock, Arkansas, but I digress.
For the producers of More To Love, I am not holding my breath that you will give us plus sizers everything that we want out of this show. My hopes are that you do an honest show, but I must be honest this oversight on the level of the auditions makes me wonder. What do you guys think about this situation? Do you think that their should have been auditions held in Columbus?

I believe that a bigger problem with the show is the basic premise that the best match for a plus size woman is a big man, whereas in truth, guys of all sizes can admire the plus size figure in a woman. It is an old stereotype that both parties in a couple have to be fat–the assumption is made by people who assume that an average-size guy would naturally prefer a slender chick. WRONG! The man’s body size has nothing to do with the kind of woman he prefers.
Bill,
You make a good point, but we all know when it comes to television and its portrayal of women the big girl is usually the one in the role of the loveable goof ball. In the case of this show if they show some slender women that is fine but I would like to see just as many curvy women as I do smaller ones competing.
