Nation of Size introduces Size Friendly TV

SizeFriendlyTV LogoDid you know that people of size represent about 40%-60% of the U.S. adult population, yet are barely seen on prime time TV? After auditing over 100 hours of prime time programming we found that characters of size represent less than 8% of the characters we see on TV!

We intend to change that. Every week with help from viewers like you, we’ll be grading episodes of 30 popular prime time shows. And we plan on holding producers, casting agents, and advertisers accountable for shows that continually get poor grades.

We need to show the TV industry that there is a concerned community out there that is not going to support harmful and discriminatory casting any longer. Source: Nation of Size

Size Friendly TV allows users to rate television shows based on how they show and talk about people of size. Three of my favorite shows 24, House and NCIS all received low to failing grades in relation to size. Though this won’t stop me from watching these shows it will make me look at my favorite shows differently.

Users also have the ability to suggest shows to be rated and have the results emailed to them. Petey and the Nation of Size are for sure headed in the right direction. Be sure to check out Size Friendly TV, and let Petey know that you support what he has put together.
