News Flash! Plus-Size Fashion Is The In Thing! Or Is it?

If you read the news over the summer plus-size fashion was going the way of the dinosaurs! But wait there’s more! According to news reports designers have realized the average woman weighs 158lbs and wears a size 14. Not to mention plus-size fashion has accounted for one of the few bright spots in the retail world despite the economy woes.
*blank stare*
Let me get this right the last five years blogs like Full Figure Plus have been reporting the plus-size fashion industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, so much so the marketing report containing the forecasts til the year 2012 will cost those interested in reading the report $6,000! Additionally, blogs, websites, magazines, designers, have been springing up like popcorn but now other “designers” are all of a sudden hailing plus-size fashion as the next “big thing?”
I have a newsflash for the cool committee in the back room making the decisions that for Fall 2009 plus-size fashion is in because ladies are tired of looking frumpy and want to buy nice looking clothes at affordable prices. YOU ARE ABOUT 20 YEARS TO LATE IN YOUR FORECAST! Sorry for the shouting but it just amazes me the mainstream is trying to take credit for the work done by those in the trenches like myself and others for getting the word out about plus-size fashion.
On Saturday Full Figure Plus will turn five years old and in no way do I see the efforts of this blog or others as faddish or looking to jump on the popularity band wagon. What do you think about all the reports that plus size fashion was dead just a few months ago and now its the in thing? By the way another new thing for plus-size fashion is the new denim store on Amazon.com. Check it out there are jeans listed from many of your favorite designers.

You know I must agree with you 1000%! Really! There are so many new and hot (haute) designers out there who are bringing the fire, to find them, all you have to do is link to the fierce fashion blogs to know what’s poppin off!

I’m with you. I’m tired of “board room members” taking credit for doing something extraordinary. While I applaud Glamour, Marie Claire and others for taking such a stand, I do think that they are doing it because it’s what’s hot right now. If they and others were so sincere in their efforts they would’ve been ahead of the curve instead of behind it. It’s not fair that major publications add a spread or column and then all of a sudden people praise them. Give me a break! Congrats on another good blog Glenn! I only buy from designers who can fulfill all of my needs (clothing, shoes, and accessories). As for the magazines, Marie Claire and Glamour, they have missed the boat on plus size woman. They are only doing it to get more readers and money! There are only two magazines that I can think of that have always celebrated the plus size woman over the years BBW (no longer in publication) and Essence! I commented about this subject on another one of your blogs and I will stand my ground on this, “Our money is just as good and sometimes better. We are all woman, and all woman enjoy and want to look fabulous no matter what size, shape or color. Keep up the good work Glenn, love your website.
