Plus Size Blogging: Sound Ethics or Whiny Finger Pointing
Posted on September 02, 2008 by Glen L Johnson
The question just popped into my head, “is plus size blogging ethically correct or is it just frustrated whining?” How I come to this question is reflecting on some of the blogs that I have read over the years have dealt with different subjects but seem to have a similar theme of frustration and finger pointing. Basically, regular people that want to get their point across in the area of size acceptance but chose to do it in an in your face style. Is that the message that we plus bloggers what to get across or is it our duty as writers to be responsible to our readers by not always trying to add fuel to the fire?
There is no dobt becasue of the level of discrimination that occurs related to size in America it is easy to see why many plus size bloggers are pissed off and are gifted enough to write about it in a way that insipres others. But should this be the undertone of every blog that deals with that which is plus size? Personally I don’t think so. For me to quickest way to turn me of is to constantly read blogs that the author is doing nothing but complaining. Not to say that their are not many issues in this country that are worth complaining about loud and long but should that be the foundation of what a blog is about?
Full Figure Plus is a blog that first and foremost an information source. Sure I have had my causes that I stood on the soap box about but there is more to what I am trying to accomplish than just shouting to be heard. I know that there will be some that won’t agree with some of these words and that is fine but I challenge all to think about what moved them to become a plus size blogger and if the message that your blog promotes is ethically and morally sound not only to you but to those that read your blog. What do you think about plus size blogging and the message that it promotes?

I love this post- it’s a thought provoker.
I do agree that some blogs constantly complain – but there are a good deal that don’t. It’s a fine line to cross because it’s difficult to discuss certain topics without standing on the “soap box” or letting the cynicism with being discriminated because of size seep through. On my blog I try to convey that there is such a thing as plus size fashion – even if it’s not as widespread as we’d like.I hope that my tone encourages someone to appreciate what she has instead of agonizing over another’s “standard”.

I agree with you. We can all do what we do without being negative in how we get our message across.
