As you know the entire country has been affected by the devastation brought on by hurricane Katrina. There have been several websites that have listed information on places that people can turn to for in some cases up to the minute information on getting food, clothing and medication for the victims. An example of this is a Plus size E-zine that I write for called Belle Noir has several links listed with phone numbers as well.
I was listening to the radio yesterday and one of the things that I heard mentioned was that of all the clothing that is being donated there has been a shortage of Plus sizes. I honestly didn’t think about it myself but when it comes down to it if Plus-size men and women have problems finding clothing when the means are there then in a crisis like this it would make it even more difficult for them to find clothes to wear.
I urge you whether you purchase something new or pull something from your closet think about your Plus size brothers and sisters and donate to them so that they can have a decent set of clothes to wear. Also remember we do have a lot of Plus Size teens to clothe as well.
After going to a few of the shelter’s these are the items that I found that where needed the most so when you are donate clothes, time or whatever you can think of these things as well.
- Laundry detergent
- Hand soap
- Hand desensitizer
- Toothpaste & toothbrushes
- Toilet paper

So where would someone who lives in another state send these plus size clothes to?
I would suggest you contact the Salvation Army and Red Cross in your state. They will have the information you need on who to contact and were to send your donations.
