*Stepping on soap box*
Most long time readers of Full Figure Plus know that part of the joy I get as a blogger of things plus size is introducing new plus size designers and merchants to you guys. I just spent the better part of an hour going through a list of nineteen plus size designers and merchants that are located both in and out of the United States.
The frustrating part about going through the list is that of that many choices I was only able to come up with five that had any presence on the Internet and when you take away the US based people that number dropped down to two.
Hence the title of this blog post that plus size designers are hiding in plain sight. Locally, they may have a little success but very few people know about them because they are not pushing their brands to the world via the Internet.
I am not saying that the only road to success runs through the Internet, but with the success of companies like Sonsi who have a strong social media presence they are able to reach a larger audience with a web presence than they could without the Internet.
Additionally, using Full Figure Plus for example, if you place either “fullfigureplus” or “full figure plus” into Google you will get different search results, but those phrases will bring you to this blog. When I did the same thing with each of the aforementioned plus size fashion designers the results took me to a personal Facebook page that had little to do with plus size fashion or anything else fashion related.
Since the point of being in business is for people to find you and for you to make money, it is hard for me to see the logic in hiding in plain sight. I understand the diamond in the rough theory, but if plus size designers like Monif C or YouTheary Khmer decided not to promote their brands they would not have the success they have had over the years. I’m just saying.
*getting off soapboax*
I don’t mean to be sounding all preachy and judgmental I just want to see as many plus size focused businesses be successful in the climate that is ripe for the taking for those who are willing to take the bull by the horns.
