Liria Mersini of the plus size fashion guide was recently on the Neil Cavuto show talking about the message that Star Jones, now super skinny, is sending to women regarding body image. Click on the video to watch it or this here if its not working in your browser. On the guide there is also a poll question, “is the focus on super skinny images in the media bad for women?”
In her first book You have to stand for something she was witty vibrant and most of all aware of her weight but it wasn’t a badge of disgrace. In her next book when I read an excerpt of it and how she was miserable when she was heavier and the negative things she is now saying about herself and those that are at her former size, instantly turned me off as well as many other fans.
Seeing the things that my wife goes through with her as far as her body image is concerned saddens me to see ladies that feel that they need to look like emaciated to look sexy. Men like me will continue to be rebels for the cause. We much prefer ladies that look like Jennifer Hudson or Mo’Nique over rail thin sickly looking women.
This new attitude and look is what lead her to leaving the View and the end of my days of regular watching of that show, but that’s another story. In the end the newly married super skinny Star Jones sends the wrong message to women and to anyone else that is concerned about being healthy and maintaining a positive body image.
