Lately their has been a surge in natural hairstyles that include twists, braids, and locs among African-American individuals.  There are many individuals that are confusing natural hair with natural styled hair.  This confusion comes from those that are not willing to go through the transition from chemically style hair to letting nature take its course and allow their hair to do whatever it wants to do.

I began my personal journey into natural hair in the summer of 2006.  At the time I was bald and made the decision to loc my hair.  Being blessed with short course hair this was going to be an experiment for me that would end if my hair did not grow or I could not get my dandruff under control.

The definition of a natural hairstyle is:

1. Only all natural products are used.
2. No weave or extensions.
3. Acceptance that natural does not always mean manicured.

It is the last step that people cheat on all the time.  How many times have you seen a person have short hair and the next week they have emmaculate locs down their back.  Getting twists and locs in this manner is like cheating on a test.  If you are not willing to go through the transition phase in which your hair will not look like a million dollars then a natural hairstyle is not for you.

As of today I have 4 inch locs and my hair is starting to turn red.  The last time I had my locs “tightened” up was back in May, yet I still have a nice over all look to my hair.  I love the fact that I can just wet my hair and go.  Washing it with a over the counter clarifying shampoo and trimming around the edges every two weeks is all the mantinance that I require.

Normally I only write about things that are related to clothes or lingerie. But as you know that hair is also a part of looking your best. Finally longer hair is coming back as well as natural hair styles. I didn’t realize that when I decided to loc my hair up that I was actually with the trend for the new year.
