Real Bodies Unite to Tackle Size Discrimination in the Fashion Industry

One of the great things about doing what I do is encountering great people who have fantastic ideas.  Recently through twitter I was introduced to 100% People a UK based size acceptance community.  They are launching a campaign to increase awareness in the fashion industry particularly in the modeling realm were we all know that emaciation is the order of the day.

Kathryn Whatton and company have launched the Real Bodies Unite a global campaign to raise 10,000 signatures to show fashion houses they should use realistic bodies on the runway and in advertising.  Additionally, Real Bodies Unite is appealing to all those women fed up of being bombarded with images of super-skinny, emaciated models.

Plus-Size Predictions For 2010

After reading the top 10 plus-size predictions on the Curvy Fashionista I decided it was time for Full Figure Plus to get into the mix.  There were lots of things that happened last year to leave me hopeful of things to come which will make my list a little different than others but at the same time on point.  As usual regardless as to if you agree or not feel free to add your comments.

  1. Plus-Size fashion will play a major role during New York and Milan Fashion weeks
  2. A plus-size reality show will depict real women instead of fabricated ones
  3. A major retail chain will carry plus-sizes and advertise such in a big way
  4. A designer of plus-size fashions will be the breakout star of the fashion world
  5. A plus-size blogger, hopefully me, will become an A list blogger

Does Size Determine Beauty?

Based on commentary from myself and a response to my words I now ask the question “Is size a contributing factor to the beauty of an individual?” For those that are new here, Full Figure Plus is a blog dedicated to “plus size fashion” among other things related to the plus size community.  Though I am personally attracted to larger women I do not think that size is a factor in regard to beauty.

The debate has been going on for decades if not longer about individuals who are too big or too skinny being unattractive.  In the confines of being a blogger for plus sizes I think there is beauty to be found in men and women regardless of size but it has more to do with the overall health of the individual than vanity purposes.  In essence by saying a small or large person is more beautiful than the other is not fair on one side and pretty judgmental on the other side.

Plus Size Beauty of the Week – Jenele Hughes

Congratulations to this weeks plus size beauty of the week Jenele Hughes.  Each week when the new lady to be featured is selected I get excited to feature yet another woman that does not fit the emaciated look that has run rampant in the fashion industry and created such division among people on what size is considered sexy and beautiful.  Along with the excitement I reflect on the personal lessons I have learned.

The biggest lesson that I have learned in the year of featuring ladies on Full Figure Plus is that beauty has no size.  Though my personal preference towards ladies that are size 18 and above that personal preference is not what should define if a woman is attractive or not.

Congratulations again to Jenele and remember all of the ladies that are featured are entered into the drawing for a dress from IGIGI.com or 25% off their next purchase at IGIGI.  You can’t win if you don’t enter.  Send all submissions to beautyoftheweek@fullfigureplus.com.

10 Reasons To Not Worry About Your Dress or Pants Size

bodyfatscaleThe debate rages on over what the ideal weight of men and women should be, but in the world that we live in today with wars, economic woes, diseases and more there are more things to think about than the number on the scale.  For these and many more reasons below is my list of reasons you SHOULD NOT worry about your size.

  1. The BMI chart is just wrong.  If 400,000 people in the US die every year from being obese then 1 in 3 people you know would be die each year
  2. The extremes of dieting trains your body to store fat rendering your dieting efforts fruitless
  3. For women men prefer women with curves
  4. For men ladies want something to hold on to
  5. Individuals that are to thin are more likely to contract immune related diseases
  6. Constant diet disturbs your natural metabolic setpoint, or natural weight for your body

“Hungry” By Crystal Renn: Book Review

crystalrenn
A few hours ago I finished reading Crystal Renn’s book Hungry: A Young Model’s Story of Appetite, Ambition and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves.  As I stated before Crystal does a great job of telling her story of her fight from being an anorexic straight model to a plus supermodel. From a male perspective the most interesting feature of the book is how Crystal tell her story and states that she does not want to be “the” fat girl but just one of many in the world of fashion that is short on diversity in both size and color.
