Thanks to reading a tweet from @BigGirlBlue I found out about The Adipositivity Project. The name is a mashup of Adipose: Of or relating to fat. Positivity: Characterized by or displaying acceptance or affirmation. I have always been a fan of showing plus-size women in all their beauty through photography.
Though I have gotten in trouble a few times over the life of Full Figure Plus for posting photos of semi-nude or nude photos in the name of size acceptance I will not stop. Thanks goodness the creator of the Adipositivity Project appears to not have the same problem.
MISSION:
The Adipositivity Project aims to promote size acceptance, not by listing the merits of big people, or detailing examples of excellence (these things are easily seen all around us), but rather, through a visual display of fat physicality. The sort that’s normally unseen.
The hope is to widen definitions of physical beauty. Literally.
Below are a few of the hundreds of photos available on their website. I must admit it was difficult to choose only a few to give you a sample of the power of the project but as you can see below there are some fantastic photos on display.
Photographer Substania Jones does and excellent job of displaying fat up close and personal. As a man who is hardwired to be visual the photos struck a powerful cord with me. I love how each photo tells a story while celebrating the fat. Ladies I know you would prefer to not bring attention to some of these areas but know there are complete strangers who think you are the most gorgeous creatures on the face of the planet because of those same areas.
Substantia does a fantastic job of showing fat in a beautiful light and the best part is the photos are updated every few days for your viewing pleasure. The best part is you can share in the joy of the Adipositivity Project by purchasing items through their shop on CafePress.
