This Day In Plus Size History – Freedom Resorts

On March 11, 2005 I wrote about the Freedom Paradise resort being at the time the only resort for people of size.  To my knowledge there is no other resort like it today and I must say that I am a bit perplexed that there is not more of a buzz about a place that is size friendly in how the property is designed and how they cater to their clients.  After reading the testimony below I am not sure why there is not more in the mainstream blog world about businesses like this.

Freedom paradise says there is room there for everybody, no matter size or age or ability, that everybody deserves a lovely vacation. They say we should not wait until we lose the weight to do the things we long to do. They make it easy to try the things right now. I weigh well over 300 pounds and was completely relaxed on the beach there, as I have never been anywhere else. Also I have mobility problems due to asthma and arthritis, and very much appreciated that our room was about 30 paces from the dining room, about ten paces from one of the swimming pools, or from the beach, and the beach itself is only about 20 paces to the water. The sand is easy to walk on for a heavy person: your feet do not sink 6 inches with every step. It is very laid back.

As a part time travel agent, more on that another time, I have told my clients about Freedom Resort for years.  Not only because it is a business that was founded on fulfilling the needs of the plus size and big and tall community but the prices are good.  I mean how many places have you been that have walk in swimming pools and anarondack chairs that are big enough for us big folks?

I hope as time goes on we will see more places like Freedom resorts pop up and there will be more of a buzz about businesses that are size and budget friendly. Have you been to Freedom resorts or do you know about other properties that welcome people of size?  If so let me know.
