Top 10 tips on dressing for the holidays
Special occasion dressing can prove to be a nightmare for some plus size men and women. With the holidays approaching, parties at the office and with friends and family doesn’t mean that you have to be stuck at the house. Just because you have hips and curves doesn’t mean you can’t look your best while you’re out at a party. Inspired by Isabella at Deluxe Grrl I have come up with a few tips of my own for dressing to impress during the holiday season.
- Before you even get to the clothing dress your mind by giving yourself permission to have fun. After all getting together with friends and family is about fun not about being uncomfortable.
- Dress for yourself not others. Whatever your particular style is no need to change it to try to impress someone that you have decided is your arch fashion rival. (See tip #1)
- Clothing that has a holiday theme like for Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas normally don’t reach into the plus size range, so if you want to have a themed look go with a costume instead of trying to find off the rack clothing.
- If the party that you’re going to is formal then buying early to beat the last minute rush is always a good thing. There are many shops online that offer plus size evening gowns as well as formal wear for men.
- If you’re not sure what type of dress the function calls for its best to under-dress than over dress. Think dressy casual, becasue you can’t have much fun if you’re uncomfortable in what you wear.
- Wear comfortable shoes. I know that for some you are willing to sacrifice comfort for look, but if you know you’re going to be standing most of the evening then wearing a shoe that won’t leave you in pain at the end of the night may be a good choice.
- For men if you don’t own a tuxedo then wearing a suit is fine. Go for broke with your tie and suspenders if that’s your thing to show off our holiday spirit.
Bottom line is that whatever works for you is what you should do when it comes to going to any type of function. Being yourself and doing what you do best will allow you the opportunity to have a ton of fun at holiday functions while looking good in your favorite or new holiday fashions.
