By now everyone has heard about the plus size model Velvet d’Amour and how she stunned Paris runways and the world last week. She continued in the spotlight in an interview with Enetertainment tonight.
When I initially wrote about the her activites I like everyone else listed her as a size 20. According to her own words she is a size 28 and close to 300 pounds. This makes the fact that she was modeling on a high fashion runway even better in my opinion.
In the interview she was very well spoken and represented modeling in general very
well regardless as to size. With all of the struggles that accompany plus size models trying to break into the mainstream the attention that Velvet has now continues the wave created by Mo’Nique’s F.A.T. Chance and the activities of Queen Latifah.
“I have no problem with someone who is a size zero, because if they’re naturally a size zero, then it’s just as prejudice to tell them they can’t be on the runway as it is to tell me I can’t be on the runway,” she tells ET.
In another interview on the blog of The Sydney Morning Herald she displays the same intelligence and wittiness that she did in the interview with E.T. Regardless as to what anyone thinks about her size or any other plus size person out there Velvet D’Amour did a fantastic job on the Paris runways as well as in the interviews that followed becasue of it.
Though I don’t think that this activity will mean that plus size models will be on everybody’s runway tommorrow, it will for sure open up more opportunites in the modeling world for ladies and gentleman of size. Even the modeling industry itself will become less snobby in how they look at ladies that want to become models. As a result we will see more ladies that look like Velvet and less of the models of today that look like clothing hangers.
Keep up the good work Velvet plus size bloggers and people worldwide are behind you.
