Wal-Mart Expands into Big and Tall and Plus Sizes

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

Wal-Mart known for low costs on a variety of items, started selling more fashionable plus size clothing a little over a year ago. When I first wrote, “Plus Size Clothing from Wal-Mart” and “Wal-Mart’s Metro 7 Plus Size clothing,” I was encouraged about the nations largest retailer selling plus size fashions, but not impressed.

A year later Wal-Mart has expanded their clothing for plus sizes to Metro 7 and George in addition to the clothing they already carry from Just My Size. With the marketing and sales power that is behind this retailer, it is possible that they can make a serious push into the world of affordable plus size fashion. For women like my wife, who is a critic of how clothes are constructed, Metro 7 and George make the cut for casual tops and bottoms that can be worn for work or play.

Another surprising development from Wal-mart is increase of big and tall sizes for men. Men work clothes and selected dressy clothing has always been available. The new direction includes more casual wear in sizes up to waist size 50. Just like for the women the big and tall sizes are at an affordable price, allowing customers more for their shopping dollar.

If the predictions of spending on plus size and big and tall  clothing in the next few years are true, I believe that Wal-Mart even with its reputation of catering only to lower income individuals will put them right in the middle of the growing number of retailers in competition for our shopping dollars.  If there are talks to expand even further and start putting advertising dollars behind the push, then major players will have to take notice and follow suit or be left out.

We have a Super Wal-Mart in our town, but it doesn’t carry as much as the SWM 20 miles away. I haven’t seen any increase in plus size clothing there, still just the Just My Size line. Most of Wal-Mart’s plus-size clothing stops at a size 26/28 for women, so it doesn’t do me any good anyway. Most of what they carry for fat women is made for short, fat women. Those of us who are over 5′ 6″ are just SOL.

I don’t think they will ever carry plus sizes over 26/28. The fact that they offer plus sizes at all online and in there stores is just a step in the right direction.

They Still have a long way to go before they become one of the goto stores for plus size fashion.

Walmarts stuff is garbage. Wash it twice and it will fit a baby! Terrible quality.

Normally I would agree. Before my wife made her most recent purchases neither one of us considered Wal-mart as a place to buy clothes. They still have a long way to go but they are of to a nice start

I am about to go to walMart and do some shopping for my husband . He is a large size man. I searched the internet and found out your store has larger size cloths for men. I always knew you had largersize cloths for females but not men. I’m praying that they have large size boxer shorts also. He’s in need of all new cloths . He had gastric by pass sirgery and the weight is falling off him. He used to be a size 60 inch waist but now he’s a size 44. We are on a very tight fixed income and cannot aford to shop at Big and Tall or male Casual. The cloths there are excellent but very, very expensive.
Ecspecially now that he’s losing so much weight so fast it’s definitly out of our shopping range. I wouls also like to know if you can mail me some coupons to help us out. I don’t have a printer so I can’t print any coupons that a person might get on line. Any little amount will help. We will tell all our larger size friends to shop there too. Plus the will see my hubby with new cloths on at an affordable price. Thank you so much in advance for helping us. I truly believe that you will help us that’s why I’m thanking you in advance.

      Cheri,
Thanks for stopping by. My suggestion to you would be to check the wal-mart website to see if there are any coupons available to be mailed to you. Tell your husband congratulations on his weight loss.

I have to admit that I always compare prices with all other stores and WalMart has the best prices. Especially when it comes to TV’s. And pretty much all electronics. They run sales all the time. The have an wonderful choice of fruit and vegies too. I shop in the one in Lisbon because it’s close and open 24 hours a day. They have great clearence itemns also. I truly don’t think i could say anything bad about them. I will always shop there and my 3 grown children do too. As a matter of fact, they all bought new flat screen tv’s that you hang on the wall and my youngest son just bought a beautiful computer there for around $200.00 cheaper than other stores. I love all the items you carry for my cats. I don’t drive so I can’t get to Pets Plus so I went on line to compare prices and of course your still cheaper. I can’t say enough about how much I love shopping at WALMART.

    Sincerly Mrs. Bratz, Cheri
