While reading Wide Width Wonders for the Plus Size Fashionista over at the Curvy Fashionista it brought to my mind the hit a miss journey that my wife has been going through purchasing shoes for the job she just moved to. The biggest problem that she and many other full figured ladies when shopping online is finding a shoe that they love only to discover that it is to short, too narrow, too uncomfortable. Taking cues from her journey and my own thoughts on wide width shoes as well as inspiration from Marie has brought me to a list of things curvy diva’s should do to save time and money when shoe shopping.
- Know your foot size – Go to a podiatrist or a high end shoe store to have your foot measured by a professional.
- Don’t settle for cheap – Cute and cheap sometimes do not go together when it comes to shoes. Comfort in some cases should trump saving a few pennies
- Know brands – Find out which brands work for your particular foot shape and stick to those brands
- Try on more buy less – You will not know till you try on a lot of shoes initially, but once you get in the groove you will know what you can and cannot wear comfortably.
- Wider heels – If you have a wide foot then a chunky heel will provide better support. A wide heel on a platform shoe will provide even more support.
I will always recommend shopping online for the convenience and savings, but to be sure of what you are getting into it will take a few trips to the mall to be measured and to try on a few different styles of shoes to get familiar with what you can and cannot wear. Ultimately, wearing the right shoe can mean the difference in foot, ankle, knee, hip, and back problems. Plus size women and least we not forget our big and tall men need to make sure that above all else we take care of our feet so that when we walk into a room we take it by storm instead of limping to the nearest chair.
