Before Christmas Lane Bryant introduced Right FIT jeans to much fanfare. What was not really talked about that much was the technology that went behind the creation of the three categories of jeans.

Source
“Lane Bryant has introduced a new line of Right Fit jeans based on scans of 14,000 customers. The data collected from the scans showed that a customer with a 34 inch waist could have hips that measured anywhere from 36 inches to 47 inches — a range that a single size couldn’t cover.”

Charming Shoppes used Intellifit to scan all of the ladies used in the final design of Right FIT jeans. Intellifit has automated the process by which consumers are effectively and efficiently measured and then matched with garments that fit them best. Hopefully other plus size companies decide to follow the Charming Shoppe lead to better serve their customer base.

Key Benefits

  • Only scanner in the world in which customers are measured while clothed.
  • Scanning process takes just 15 seconds
  • Measurements are accurate to 1cm
  • Customers can shop for apparel on-line and off-line with full confidence in fit
  • No special training is required; simple on-screen instructions
  • Can be moved to collect measurements from multiple locations
  • Customers find the experience fun and unobtrusive – over 230,000 individuals measured since 2003

Basically what this company has done is added technology to the traditional concept of tailored clothing. For plus size men and women that come in all shapes, sizes, and height having a tool available to measure our exact body types is a good thing in my opinion.

The most beneficial part of the technology used in the Intellifit body scanning is the measurements can be used by a customer to accurately make online purchases. This will be especially helpful to those that would like to make purchases from overseas merchant but are afraid of taking the risk.

Plus size fashion for men and women would definitely benefit from body scanning technology. Intellifit has plans to make major expansions into malls across the country including hightech kiosks that allow customers to get custom made jeans.

    Veronica,

Cool is too weak of a word. Body scanning technology will be *the* best way to get great fitting clothes. If you think about it, it can revolutionize both the fitting process for customers and the technical design process for garment makers.

Garment makers potentially have access to more data then ever before possible. The ones that embrace this technology will have the greatest chance of success.
