Will Mo’Nique Blow Her Chance at Winning an Oscar?

Its that time of the year again to speculate on who will win an Oscar for acting excellence. Recently Mo’Nique was nominated in the category of Best Supporting Actress for her villainous role in the move Precious. The buzz since the movie came out has been Mo’nique having quite the attitude regarding press appearances related to the movie as well as how much she was paid to actually be in the movie.
My question is, did Mo’Nique not learn a thing from the Eddie Murhy Norbit debacle? Granted she does not have a dog of a movie in the face of Oscar judges rating the performance of a life time, but if the rumors are true and she does have an attitude regarding talking about the movie as much as I support plus-size black talent on the silver screen I say she should not win the biggest prize of them all and just be happy with the Golden Globe and the SAG awards.
Maybe she has been in the industry to long making substandard movies and not really talking about them during interviews that when she makes a movie that knocks it out of the park it is just natural for her to say she is working on The Mo’Nique Show and taking care of her family.
Am I being overly critical of her? Probably, but as a black man who has been bombarded with less than crappy mess pretending to be a movie when a movie with “us” in it comes out and one of our own acts like they don’t care then it upsets me. And the killer part about this hype is I have yet to see the movie!
With the list of black actresses winning an Oscar being so short does she not realize the elite company she has the potential of being a part of? I mean to be talked about in the same light as Hattie McDaniel, Whoopi Goldberg, and Halle Berry, and Jennifer Hudson would be enough for most. Maybe screaming like a banshee on her late night talk show is what she feels more comfortable with in stead of taking her career to the next level, I don’t know.
In terms of Full Figure Plus things related to Mo’Nique are still the most searched for items. Meaning there are people who absolutely adore her. From that stand point does she not realize that doing the do during Oscar time is just par for the course. Part of me would love to see her win to bring the totals for the ladies up but the other part say if she can’t be gracious enough to do the media circuit regarding the movie then she does not deserve to be in the company of previous winners.

I completely agree with you! I have seen the movie, and indeed her performance is Oscar worthy. If she is salty about her pay, she has no one to blame but herself! She and her manager should have negotiated her contract better. Most actors/actresses who take a movie for less than their usual pay and believe in the movie negotiate to receive extra compensation on the back end. Meaning if the box office sales are large they receive a second payment or a percentage of the sales. Her bad!! Live and learn Monique. What she is going to do is make her name mud and no producer, film company, or director will want to work with her. And furthermore, I HATE yes HATE her talk show! She has wonderful guest but I can stand the screaming and the sugas. I’m a southern woman and am known for the “sweetie, sugar, baby” but I’m not screaming it from the top of my lungs.
